The Frugal Fashionista

So I was sitting here… working really hard on this blog… OK, I confess. I was snarfing down Haagen Daz and channel surfing. For a moment I got caught up in “The Devil Wears Prada”. In spite of the gorgeous Bambi-eyed Anne Hathaway and the best wardrobe ever filmed; that movie makes me furious!  Why is it that she can’t keep the guy, be a journalist, and have a great haircut?

Newsflash – the word “fashionista” is NOT derogatory. It is not a shopping addiction or the milieu of the terminally vapid. And Frugal Fashionista is not an oxymoron. Whew! Glad I got that off my chest; in spite of a tad of sugar-induced vehemence.

So let’s start by defining terms. What is a Frugal Fashionista, anyway? I think a Frugal Fashionista:

• Really understands who he/she is – your essence, if you will, and celebrates that in your clothing, accessories and surroundings
• Lives and entertains graciously, on any budget
• Works to keep surroundings tranquil and uncluttered
• Respects and diligently maintains financial health
• Always looks great!

And yes, I can help you find some great deals!

So let’s get started…A Frugal Fashionista has to understand who s/he is at this very moment in time. Why? Because you will create/enhance a wardrobe and environment for this unique person. There are many complicated ways to discover your true essence, but let’s keep it really simple. Write down 5 words that describe you. Text, call, IM or whatever the 3 – 5 people who know you best. Ask them to do the same thing. Don’t over think this – just jot down the first five words they say. You may see some similarities in the words your friends used; you may also have what look to be opposing words. That’s OK.
